The 1st Annual Bridgwater and District Community Shield
Cross Rifles FC vs Huntspill Crowns - 23rd April 2006
Me before the match - I’m off to see how people are coming through the gates.
Lauren, Vikki and Tina doing a sterling job selling the programmes and collecting entrance money.
Bethany at the turnstiles.
Roger Palmer from Bridgwater Town meets Plen, Su’s step-dad.
Charlotte and Lauren in their football gear.
More folk appear at the turnstiles.
The teams stand ready for a quick rendition of
“God Save The Queen”.
I’m looking out of the window to see if I need to start the National Anthem on the CD player.
My mum, me and Hannah (Su’s niece) at the entrance. We’re starting to panic as the draw tickets are running low.
The half-time penalty shootout. The first contender takes his shot against Chris the Clown.
Poor Plen pulls his hamstring on his run-up and falls!
John on the mic said “Have another go”. So Plen did.
He may be smiling here, but twenty minutes later I was phoning for an ambulance for him!
He had torn his hamstring and had to stay overnight in Musgrove Hospital in Taunton.
Mike runs up for his shot...
It’s about to hit the bar.
Tina, Charlotte, Lauren and Vikki have their picture taken for the Bridgwater Mercury.
Me desperately trying to make a speech and failing dismally thanks to a temperamental radio mic!
The trophy is presented to the winners, Cross Rifles FC.
