We first heard about Tommy Bennett in September 2006, by spotting a listing on eBay in aid of him. At the time, Tommy was only 2 years old and desperately wanting to go to Florida. He was extremely ill and his prognosis was very poor.
Tommy’s dream was to see the space rockets in Florida, and to meet the 'real' Mickey Mouse at Disneyland.
Tommy’s parents, Tracey and Mark Bennett, were having huge trouble finding the money to take him, mostly due to the exorbitant cost of travel insurance.
After a little bit of help from lots of people (including this site), plus an extremely generous donation by a local business, the family finally reached their target on Monday 18th December.
Tommy had a very rare type of brain tumour called Anaplastic Oligodendro Glioma, Grade III. He was the only child in the UK with this type of cancer and we were told by his family that there are only three other known diagnoses in the world.
Tommy had been fighting the cancer for 18 months. He responded well at first but the cancer began to grow back very aggressively.
On his return from Florida, Tommy began to suffer from blackouts and nausea. His tumour had doubled in size since Christmas and this growth was the cause of his sickness and unconsciousness, due to the tumour creating greater pressure inside his head.

An attempt was made to debulk the tumour and the operation was partly successful. However, the cancer was now growing at an incredible rate.
Tommy was now only awake for fractions of the day, spending most of his time asleep or unconscious.
Paralysis was becoming a problem, with movement being lost in his limbs. This became worse over time.
Tragically, Tommy lost his fight against cancer and died on 5th March 2007.
We were privileged to be able to help Tommy in some small way.
Tommy’s parents continue to raise money for Tommy's special needs nursery, Peter Pan, and also to the Children's Brain Tumour Research Foundation (www.cbtrc.org where Tommy is the main case study). If you would like to make a donation please email me on tracey.bennett@keele-road.fsnet.co.uk, or send a donation through Paypal.
A huge thank you to you all for supporting Tommy.
